Frontend and UX/UI design

Techno

Project Overview
In this project, I migrated our back office system from Angular to React using framework Next.js, leveraging Microsoft Azure for faster feature development. I enhanced the user experience in the orders section, addressed key usability issues, and introduced a promotions manager and promo codes for marketing efficiency and a new section for insights from orders. A new design system was developed to improve interface coherence and user interaction, ensuring a seamless transition and enhanced functionality.
My Role
As the frontend developer and UX/UI designer, I was responsible for both the technical migration and the UX/UI improvements. This involved planning the migration, designing the new design system, and implementing Azure solutions.

TL:DR

Migrated the back office system for enhanced scalability and user experience, particularly in the orders section with detailed customer insights. Also introduced a promotions manager for improved marketing functionality, along with a new section for insights from orders, providing valuable data analytics for deeper customer understanding.

Challenge

The project faced the complex challenge of migrating the existing back office system to not only improve its scalability but also to address various user experience issues, particularly within the orders section. This entailed the provision of detailed customer order information, an enhanced focus on customer management through robust analytics, and the introduction of a promotions manager feature. These initiatives were aimed at boosting marketing capabilities, improving overall operational efficiency, and ensuring a more insightful and user-centric approach to customer interactions.

Why was this important to solve?

The migration was critical for future development scalability, ensuring the system could adapt and grow with evolving business needs. UX improvements in the orders section significantly boosted system efficiency and usability, addressing key user pain points. Introducing the promotions manager and integrating customer analytics were crucial steps in enhancing marketing capabilities and providing deeper insights into customer behavior, aligning these enhancements with broader business objectives.

What problems were we trying to solve?

Our primary objectives were to seamlessly migrate frameworks without disrupting current functionalities, enhance the orders section with detailed customer information, and introduce a promotions manager for advanced marketing strategies. We also focused on improving customer management by integrating robust analytics features, enabling more effective tracking and understanding of customer behaviors and needs.

My process

Research

In our research phase, I focused on internal user feedback analysis and product usage data analysis. By conducting feedback sessions, I identified key pain points and challenges faced by internal users with the current system, allowing us to prioritize tasks effectively for redesign. We also delved deep into the product's existing usage data, analyzing how users interact with various features and identifying gaps that suggested areas for improvement. Although direct competitor analysis was not our primary focus, we still considered market trends and industry standards to ensure our redesigns were aligned with current best practices and user expectations.

Results

The project led to a dynamic and efficient update of the back office system, significantly enhancing the speed of development for future upgrades. Key improvements included a vastly improved user experience in the orders section, providing detailed order information and elevating user interaction. The introduction of a promotions manager and the integration of customer analytics markedly advanced our marketing capabilities, allowing for more targeted and effective strategies. Additionally, the implementation of a new design system contributed to a more coherent and user-friendly interface, substantially boosting user satisfaction and overall operational efficiency.

Constraints & Considerations

I was under a strict deadline to complete the redesign and implementation within 3 months, necessitating efficient project management and expedited workflows.

Final Thoughts

The project was a valuable learning experience in managing large-scale migrations and designing user-centric interfaces. Gained insights into effective project management, balancing technical challenges with user experience, and the importance of thorough testing and user feedback in the development process.
